Company description:: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 1/15/2003
YOUTH LEADERSHIP COUNCIL ANNOUNCES 2004 CONFERENCE THEME -- "COMMUNICATION" -- and FIRST ANNUAL STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION
The Youth Leadership Council (YLC) announces its 2004 Youth Leadership Conference theme -- "Communication: More Than Words" -- accompanied by YLC's inaugural Student Design Competition. For the first time ever, YLC invites Asian American high school students from the Houston area to submit designs for the t-shirts given to all participants at the YLC Conference. The winner of the competition will receive free tuition to the 2004 Youth Leadership Conference. Designs must incorporate the "Communication" theme: contest details will be posted on the YLC website: http://www.ylc.net.
A 501c(3) non-profit organization established in 1988 to foster leadership skills and aspirations among Asian American youth, the Youth Leadership Council comprises a tiered program of advisors culled from Houston community leaders; an executive board of young professionals; a mentor group of college students; and an attending body of high school students. Each year, YLC sponsors the Youth Leadership Conference, offering high school students a unique opportunity to develop skills that prepare and encourage them towards future leadership. Mentors and attendees are selected through an application process, to ensure that all participants receive the best experience possible at the conference.
This year, YLC offers high school students the chance to share their artistic interpretations of "Communication" and its role in leadership through the YLC Student Design Competition. The competition is open to all Asian American and South Asian American students, who are encouraged to to be creative in their design. The design guidelines are: 1. The design must incorporate the "Communication" theme; 2. Only one to three colors may be used; and, 3. The final design must abide by legal standards (ie., no images that infringe on copyrights or trademarks, or are lewd or obscene).
Since its inception, YLC has helped over 2000 students realize their potentials as leaders of tomorrow. Many conference attendees have graduated on to becoming successful professionals--current YLC President, Brian Chiu, and many members of the YLC Executive Board were mentors and student attendees at past conferences. Prior to "Communication," Youth Leadership Conference themes have addressed diversity in the community and workplace; discovering how leadership and community are interrelated; identifying and addressing common problems facing the Asian American community; and discussing problems that face the younger generation.
