Company description::
In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, the Pennsylvania Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (PA CASA) recently presented PSECU with the first-ever Voice Award.
President of the PA CASA Board of Directors, Wanda Noll, presented the award at a quarterly meeting of PSECU staff and Kathleen A. Salmon, PSECU Board Chair, accepted the award.
The PA CASA Voice Award can be given to any individual or corporation that helps to give voice to the CASA mission of speaking for abused and neglected children in PA courts.
According to PA CASA Executive Director Dennis Hockensmith, “We have come to know PSECU as a corporate community of highly skilled professionals that generously support our mission to positively touch the future of all abused and neglected children across the Commonwealth. The PA CASA Association has been richly blessed by the support of PSECU!”
“After becoming a major sponsor of the 2003 Faulkner Honda Harrisburg Criterium to benefit PA CASA, PSECU has really embraced PA CASA and its cause,” notes PSECU Public Relations Administrator Margaret Delmonico. “We place a high priority on future generations and their well-being. And, we are extremely pleased to be able to generate support for PA CASA in a number of capacities, including in-kind sponsorships, continuing our sponsorship of the Criterium and employee time involvement with the 2004 race planning committee.”
A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a citizen volunteer appointed by the court to participate as an advocate for a child. Research suggests that children who are assigned advocates spend less time in court and in the foster care system, have better chances of finding permanent homes and have lower delinquency rates. The national program began in 1977 when a Seattle, Washington Family Court judge felt that he was not getting all the information he needed to make correct decisions for the long-term welfare of children he saw in his courtroom. For more information about PA CASA, call 717.233.3118 or visit www.pacasa.org.
PSECU is one of the nation’s largest credit unions, serving over 290,000 members. PSECU members are State Employees, faculty, staff, students and alumni of the Universities within the State System of Higher Education and Harrisburg Area Community College, Penn State faculty and staff, employees of local governments, participants in the Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS), approved employee groups and family members of all of the above groups. PSECU is a full-service, not-for-profit institution that provides a multitude of convenient electronic delivery services at no or low-cost.
